Message from the Lion Prez Mark Vogt
We have two meetings yet this month, then next month begin our summer schedule of one meeting per month. A reminder that our June Meeting will be a special one at the pavilion. On tap for that meeting are a cook out and the official passing of the gavel to President Elect Karg.
Our more immediate focus for Wednesday’s meeting is to make final preparations and reports for a large number of summer events including Lampi Parking at month end, the All Night Grad Party and Willow Playground Project in June, capped by the Fourth of July Queen candidate, Fourth of July Burger Stand and July Meat Raffle nights. We’re entering one of the more concentrated periods of our Lion calendar. Lots of hands will be needed, so if you are not signed up for a couple events, we hope you’ll do that Wednesday night. We Serve!
Lions Karg, Jerpy and I attended the Zone meeting chaired by our own Lion Dewey on April 27th. It is evident that Lion Dewey brings much needed enthusiasm and energy to this group and represents our Club well. His challenge is large. A thing we learned from the Lion Guv that night was overall membership for the international organization has dropped every year except once in the last 26 years. Seems they could learn something from the Annandale Lions, and that’s why Lion Dewey’s passion is a perfect prescription for success in our Club, Zone, Region and District.
As your Lion Prez, I had the honor to represent the Club last week in distributing our 14 scholarships to the graduating class of 2009. Lion Steve and his staff at the school do a great job with this function. On a consolidated basis, our community came up with more than 60 scholarships sponsored by approximately 30 individuals or organizations. In total, more than $60,000 was awarded at the Scholarship event last week. One doesn’t appreciate what a great program this is for our Club until you look these young adults in the eye and see how much it means to them. Our scholarship program is one of the real class things we sponsor. Each of us should take pride in this program.
I delivered a bottle of adult beverage and a card on behalf of the Club to Lion Mark Miller. He is recovering well and we’ll see him before we know it.
Looking forward to seeing you Wednesday night!!
Roar Baby!
